I’m pleased to say that Panasonic has dropped the Lumix script ‘L’ on the front of the body, I never liked it. Announced in February 2018 it comes two years after the Lumix TZ100 / ZS100, and like that model packs a relatively large 1in / 20 Megapixel sensor into a compact body with a built-in viewfinder and decent zoom. But I'm left wanting a bit more. PCMag hasn't had a chance to complete its full review of the Sony RX100 VI as of yet, but if you have the budget, it's an alternative to consider. You specify the start and end of the clip by tapping the screen to position a 1920×1080 sized frame. Panasonic recommends using an SD card rated at Class 4 or faster for AVCHD, and UHS-I Class Speed 3 (U3) for the 100Mbit 4K UHD and 1080p / 100p / 120p modes. Images are saved to an SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card. You can see a 4k version here. Moving to the 360mm focal legnth changes things a bit. Nevertheless, Panasonic has managed to accommodate a 15x optical zoom in the case of the Panasonic ZS200 (TZ200 – TZ202) and give it a 24 mm initial focal length (in 35mm equivalent). This means that the camera actually has all the prerequisites for convincing image quality. It’s worth noting that the older Lumix TZ100 / ZS100’s 10x f2.8-5.9 lens would make only about a quarter of a stop difference, or to put it another way the difference between 400 and 500 ISO. Theres a small drop in resolution at 135mm f/5.7 (2,007 lines), with a slight uptick in shooting quality at f/8 (2,164 lines). Not forgetting the Lumix LX 10 / LX15 with it’s 24-72mm f1.4-2.8 lens That said, neither the Lumix LX10 / LX15, the Sony RX100 V nor the Powershot G7X II would get you anywhere near as close to the action as the Lumix TZ200 / ZS200. In practice, the viewfinder is much more than just a fallback option in sunny weather. It’s a neat feature which makes innovative use of the TZ200 / ZS200’s 4k resolution to make life easier, particularly if you need a super-smooth panning shot, but don’t have a tripod. He studied at RPI and worked on the retail side of the industry at B&H before landing at PCMag. Narrowing the aperture doesn't do much to change image quality, though edges improve a little bit at f/5.6 (988 lines) and f/8 (1,394 lines). In reality, you can shoot through ISO 400 with absolutely no loss of image quality. The LUMIX ZS200 incorporates the same Venus Engine as our LUMIX G Series mirrorless cameras, enabling high quality image capture and high speed signal processing required for 4K video recording. If you want to browse the images on the card in the camera before deciding which to transfer, then Transfer selection is the option to go for. The 3-inch LCD is a fixed design—it doesn't swing out or tilt—with a 1,240k dot resolution. The ZS200 ($799) not only has a longer zoom ratio, but also a better overall lens. But if you’re a keen sports or wildlife photographer you’ll need to raise the ISO sensitivity to maintain a fast enough shutter speed for capturing moving subjects. You can see a 4k version here. The above shot was taken in the TZ200 / ZS200’s 10fps continuous high mode which disables live view and fixes the focus and exposure on the first frame. 2 offers from $849.99. There is no microphone input, so the ZS200 shouldn't be your first choice for vlogging. The TZ200 / ZS200 is equipped with software that lets you easily capture bursts of video before scrolling through the footage and extracting the perfect frame as a JPEG image, all in-camera. Keep an eye on your inbox! Whether it's a bird taking flight, a balloon bursting, or a person glancing backward, the camera detects the motion or your subject's face and automatically sets a marker. Post Focus is another feature that uses the TZ200 / ZS200’s 30fps 4K shooting mode, in this case to focus-bracket a rapid sequence of images. Once paired over Bluetooth using the free Lumix Image App for iOS or Android handsets, the app remains in low-power contact with the camera, allowing it to pass location details and embed them on images with no effort or interaction (the Image App needs to be left running for location tagging to work). PCMag Digital Group. OK Read my full review to discover if the Lumix TZ200 / ZS200 is the premium compact travel-zoom for you. As on the earlier Lumix TZ100 / ZS100, the Lumix TZ200 / ZS200 is equipped with Wifi for wireless image transfer and remote control with smartphones. F3.3-6.4 lens that's both slightly wider and much longer (though a bit slower). The 0.2" Live Viewfinder (2330K dot equiv.) During recording you can change the exposure setting including, depending on the mode, aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation. There’s also a 24fps option encoded at 100Mbit/s. It's a very good pocket camera, but we wish the screen offered tilt. With Wi-Fi connectivity and direct social media access, you can put your next post online with ease and inspire your followers with your stunning travel photos. In the image below, the 4k coverage is indicated by the outer edge of the red frame, resulting in a not insignificant reduction in the field of view; indeed when filming 4k video, the equivalent range is cropped from 24-360mm to 30-450mm – good news at the long end, but you lose a lot of coverage at the wide-end. With the wide focus area enabled and under bright light, the ZS200 locks on in almost no time at all. Perfect for all destinations, the powerful 15x optical zoom and high performance 1-inch sensor makes your precious moments last forever. It's rated for 370 shots using the rear LCD, 250 shots using the EVF, or 350 shots using the EVF in conjunction with a power-saving mode. The new model adds Bluetooth for seamless location tagging, a more responsive remote shutter, and easy Wifi negotiation. You can see a 4k version here. The literally big news though remains the 15x zoom range, the longest for a 1in compact with a pocket body. Its lens was a disappointment, however, delivering so-so results when zoomed in. Aside from its fixed design—a tilting LCD makes taking shots from high or low angles a more pleasant experience—I've got not complaints with the LCD. And having introduced a new red stripe on the front, Panasonic has ditched the one that previously appeared on the top. † Price shown is the suggested retail price applicable to ALL PROVINCES EXCEPT FOR QUEBEC. Its edge performance also suffers at 24mm, though not as much as the ZS200. Panasonic's touch support is quite good too, allowing you to navigate through menus, which you can't do with the more limited touch interface found on Sony's RX100 VI. The price to pay for the longer zoom is a slower focal ratio: f3.3-6.4 on the new TZ200 / ZS200, making it optically dimmer than its predecessor’s f2.8-5.9, both of which are already way behind the typical f1.8-2.8 of their rivals with shorter zooms. Panasonic ZS200 has external dimensions of 111 x 66 x 45 mm (4.37 x 2.6 x 1.77″) and weighs 340 g (0.75 lb / 11.99 oz) (including batteries). Wireless communication is included, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so you can transfer images to your smartphone.
